As a wedding photographer, I have been to many beautiful locations to shoot weddings. There are a handful of great venues around Indiana and the midwest but nothing quite as spectacular as Vail in the Colorado Rockies. A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to be a part of a great destination wedding of Josh and Betsy, two of my great friends from Indianapolis. Josh and Betsy are huge outdoor lovers. They love everything from wake surfing to camping, rock climbing to mountain biking, surfing, cycling, and snowboarding. Every season feeds them with new adventures and provides them opportunities to unleash physical activities that give them a spiritual rush of adrenaline that satisfies their adventurous souls. In short, these two are all about staying active ALL year round! It was time to get married, but NOT in Indianapolis.

About a year ago Betsy asked me to be a part of their wedding in Vail Colorado. I happily accepted the role as the official wedding photographer and after months of meticulous wedding planning I was boarding a plane and on my way to the mountains for a week of activities leading up to their great day on March 1, 2013. I approach destination weddings a little differently than a traditional wedding shot over a period of 10 hours. I still try to tell a story with the images I capture, but I’m capturing images over a two and three day period, sometimes longer. I want friends and family to look back and relive the entire wedding week, not just the wedding day alone. It was a perfect week of snowboarding, their daughter Avens first Birthday party, horseback riding, sunset sleigh rides, fresh snow, more snowboarding, family dinners, and great friends and family. The entire week unfolded with ease! Mother nature gave us a fresh blanket of snow for our beautiful shoot on the mountain with Betsy and Josh on the morning of their wedding day. The sun peaked through the clouds as they exchanged wedding vows on the mountaintop in front of friends and family and curious onlookers.

As a friend of Josh and Betsy, and as their wedding photographer, I thoroughly enjoyed the time I was able to spend with the two of them and their families in Vail. I got to know new family members and share good times with friends who I rarely see back in Indianapolis. So at the end six days as the newlyweds and I drove down interstate 70 towards the airport in nearly white-out snow conditions and barely missing a 40 car pile up, I reflected on the week behind me, thankful to have good friends that trusted my skills in photography and who also wanted me to be a part of their week in Vail. It was truly an honor to have been able to capture the Wedding of Betsy and Josh in the breathtaking mountains of Vail Colorado. The images will tell the story
